Segasist Product Information

Products :: Segasist P-AC 1.0

Segasist observes, captures and saves your contouring and editing preferences over time, and applies this knowledge to contour new images.

Prostate Segmentation in MRI, CT, Ultrasound

Segasist learns to contour like you would.

Segasist Prostate Auto-Contouring is our first commercially available software product.

Segasist P-AC is a software tool that assists clinical researchers (radiologists, oncologists, medical physicists etc.) in performing contouring/delineation of the prostate gland in MR/CT/Ultrasound images more efficiently. The current version of the software is capable of segmenting prostate in individual slices in any given view (axial, sagittal, coronal). For volume prostate images, Segasist P-AC calculates the prostate volume. The results can be saved as DICOM or binary images.

Segasist P-AC provides a platform to increase the productivity of clinical work when experts (radiologists, surgeons, oncologists, physicists, etc.) need to delineate the prostate gland in individual MR/CT/Ultrasound slices, or to calculate the prostate volume.

The current version of Segasist P-AC is a complete segmentation solution with the capability of adjusting the segmentation process for prostate delineation in MR images. Segasist P-AC can improve the segmentation result by adjusting its contouring techniques using gold standard images created by the expert user. This requires the software to be calibrated during a stage called Training Mode before being used. When the software is ready to be run by the user, it is in Interactive Mode. In training mode, gold standard images are loaded into the software (from a directory), and in interactive mode, the user's edits (corrections to the contour) will be used for the calibration process.

Figure 1. Segasist P-AC applied to prostate MR: Left image: the original MR image captured with endorectal coil. Right image: the prostate gland extracted by Segasist. Segasist can calculate the volume of the organ (prostate, in this instance) for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes.

Segasist P-AC also offers a powerful built-in editor enabling the user to edit, modify, or change the extracted contour, ensuring that the software results can always be corrected by the expert to match the anatomical boundaries of the prostate gland. In addition, the expert user can delineate the prostate completely manually, if necessary/desired. As a result, when Segasist P-AC generates a contour, the expert user always has the final word to override the software result. It is up to the expert user to accept the result without any change, reject it completely and delineate from scratch, or modify the contour and then save it.

The Segasist P-AC software consists of two main programs: Removable Media Explorer and DICOM Image Viewer. The Removable Media Explorer provides patients' directory functionality where local DICOM databases can be created and browsed. The DICOM Image Viewer's main functionalities include viewing DICOM images/volume data and segmenting prostate MR images.

User Interface of Segasist P-AC

Figure 2. Segasist P-AC uses an intuitively simple user interface. Single and multiple views of the prostate gland are available for contouring.

Segasist P-AC provides a method of accurately and quickly processing prostate images, including performing volumetric calculations, a function which up until now has been a missing component in prostate cancer research. This first version of our software will enable significant advancement in research for the fight against prostate cancer.

The software provides complete integrated editing tools built around its unique Segasist Engine. It is the Segasist Engine which makes the software most useful and convenient: the software can be trained, resulting in increased accuracy over time of its segmentation and volumetric measurements. In other words, the results of the software get better the more it is used. The software observes, captures and saves your contouring and editing preferences over time, and applies this knowledge (which is your knowledge) to contour new images. Segasist learns to contour like you would.

Segasist P-AC has a very intuitive user interface allowing the user to focus on the main task. Diverse contour editing tools are embedded and readily available to perform any type of contour modification including manual delineation, smoothing, rotation, translation, and edge snapping.
