Dr. Hamid R.
Tizhoosh - Founder and CEO
Dr. Tizhoosh is a founding member of Segasist Technologies.
He received an M.S. in electrical engineering with a major
in computer science from the University of Technology, Aachen,
Germany, in 1995. From 1993 to 1996, he worked at Management
of Intelligent Technologies Ltd., Aachen, Germany in the
field of industrial image processing. Dr. Tizhoosh received
his Ph.D. degree from the University of Magdeburg, Germany
in 2000, where he explored observer-oriented image processing
in a clinical setting. He was active as the scientist in
the engineering department of IPS (Image Processing Systems
Inc., now Photon Dynamics), in Markham, Canada, until 2001.
For six months, he was a visiting professor at the Knowledge
and Intelligence Systems Laboratory, at the University of
Toronto (Canada). Since September 2001, Dr. Tizhoosh has
served as a faculty member in the department of Systems
Design Engineering, at the University of Waterloo. His research
encompasses machine intelligence and computer vision.

Dr. Tizhoosh has extensive experience
in medical imaging, including portal (megavoltage) imaging,
x-rays, MRI, and ultrasound. He has been a member of the
European Union Projects INFOCUS and ARROW, initiatives intended
to improve the integration of online images within the treatment
planning of cancer patients requiring radiation therapy.
In cooperation with the Roberts Institute (London, ON),
Dr. Tizhoosh and his students have developed new techniques
for segmentation of transrectal prostate images. Dr. Tizhoosh
is the lead inventor of the technology behind Segasist and
the author of two books, 14 book chapters, and more than
80 journal/conference papers. |
Dr. Farzad Khalvati,
Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Farzad Khalvati received his PhD in Electrical and
Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in
2008. His expertise and research interests include High-Performance
image processing, medical imaging, and reconfigurable computing
(FPGA design). During his PhD studies at Waterloo, Farzad
designed and developed a new optimization technique for
image processing algorithms for both software and hardware
platforms. Farzad is also an adjunct faculty member of the
Systems Design Engineering department at the University
of Waterloo. Farzad has won several awards for his research
and his publications include 3 US patent applications and
13 journal and conference papers.
Farzad helped to develop the first prototype of Segasist
software in 2007. He joined the company as the senior scientist
in 2009 and has been instrumental in research and development
and acquiring the FDA clearance for our first product, Segasist
P-AC 1.0. |

Dr. Sam
Visaisouk - President
Dr. Sam Visaisouk specializes in technology commercialization
and start-up operations. He has served in c-level positions
in Canada and the US. As Entrepreneur in Residence at the
University of Waterloo, he started up Segasist Inc., Tyromer
Inc. and recently, ViZpector Technology Inc. While at the
University of Toronto, he started up CastConnex Corporation,
Marksman Cellject Inc., and Greencore Composites Inc.
Dr. Visaisouk holds 7 US and 3 Canadian patents. In 2001,
he won the Discover Magazine Top-Ten Award for Technological
Innovation. |
