News Update: Segasist Technologies Establishes Collaborations
with National Cancer Institute, Sunnybrook Health Sciences and UOIT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 11, 2011 (Toronto, ON) – Segasist Technologies,
a Canadian software company developing automated image contouring
methods for biomedical applications announced today the establishment
of collaborations for three separate projects with the National
Cancer Institute (NCI), Bethesda, MD, Sunnybrook Health Sciences
Centre, Toronto, ON, and the University of Ontario Institute of
Technology (UOIT), Oshawa, ON.
The collaboration with National
Cancer Institute (NCI) will involve the testing and validation
of the company’s P-AC 1.0 software for prostate auto-contouring.
“The NCI researchers have been in contact with us since early
2010 and have continuously helped us to improve the software considerably”,
says Hamid Tizhoosh, CEO of Segasist Technologies, “we are
delighted that the NCI researchers continue to support us both with
testing our software and providing us with anonymized patient images”.
Dr. Peter L. Choyke (Program Director of Molecular Imaging at NCI)
will be in charge of the project.
The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Segasist Technologies
will partner together at the University
of Toronto’s Sunnybrook
Research Institute in a new research project that will validate
Segasist’s automated software method for tumour segmentation
and the tracking of tumour responses to chemotherapy in a clinical
setting. “This will be the first time that our software will
be rigorously tested by clinicians for tumor segmentation”,
says Hamid Tizhoosh, “as such, this collaboration is of immense
importance to us on the path of our future FDA clearances.”
Dr. Gregory Czarnota will head up the project at the Sunnybrook
Research Institute.
The University of
Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and Segasist will collaborate
together in a new research project to exploit a novel adaptive technique
that will leverage Segasist’s existing proprietary software
for fast and accurate contouring of lesions/organs, to allow fully
automated segmentation in real time. Dr. Shahryar Rahnamayan, assistant
professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, will be the
principal investigator at UOIT.
