Update: Reconcillio™ at ASTRO 2011

A Short Report

October 6, 2011 – Segasist Technologies launched its newest software, Reconcillio™, at the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), which was held this year at the Miami Beach Convention Center from October 2-6, 2011.

During the event, the Segasist booth was visited by many clinicians who were searching for innovative products. A total of 127 attendees stopped at the booth, almost 90 of them unique, first time visitors. Many of these clinicians enthusiastically participated in the Segasist “Manual Contouring Challenge” to measure their contouring skill and accuracy against a consensus contour provided by the new Reconcillio software. Segasist P-AC, prostate auto-contouring, also found a lot of interest, especially its modality-independent feature and its fast slice-to-slice auto-segmentation.

However, Reconcillio was the main attraction at the booth: the software that, for the first time ever, is capable of automated generation of consensus contours for unseen images; for any modality and any body part;

Many questions were asked about Reconcillio: How does it work? How many experts can be involved? How does it generate the consensus? How much does it cost?

We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic reception for Reconcillio. We knew, prior to the show, that inter- and intra-observer variability was and is a huge problem in medical imaging and analysis, and solving this problem has been one of our driving motivations for the past three years in working on Reconcillio. However, the level of excitement and interest that Reconcillio’s launch generated among the clinicians exceeded even our expectations for the product.

Many oncologists provided invaluable advice and feedback with respect to the main application fields envisioned for Reconcillio. Many others were just eager to start using it. For the Segasist team who had worked tirelessly during the creation and lead up to the launch of Reconcillio, the excitement and interest shown by clinicians in the field was extremely gratifying and a validation of their faith in the product’s abilities and the long hours of effort spent in recent weeks to bring it to launch.

Segasist Launched Reconcillio at ASTRO 2011

ASTRO 2011 was an amazing experience. Through numerous conversations with the clinicians at the show, we were assured, repeatedly, of the urgent need for Reconcillio, and the role it could perform in helping to establish a quality framework for the future of contouring in radiation oncology.
